The Natalie Kate Moss Trust is thrilled to introduce Prevent the Preventable Podcast, our new podcast that dives deep into brain haemorrhage awareness and what can be done to help prevent them. This podcast reflects our mission to make brain health a priority and to help listeners take proactive steps to reduce their risk of brain haemorrhage, a serious health condition that often comes without warning but with profound consequences. Not only serving as a hub for expert insights, the podcast also offers real-life stories from survivors, family members, and health professionals, empowering listeners to make informed choices for a healthier life.

Every year there are 4.6million cases of brain haemorrhages, yet only 3 out of 5 people will survive one month after a brain haemorrhage. At the Natalie Kate Moss Trust, we believe that many of these incidents are preventable, and this podcast, therefore falls in line with our brain haemorrhage prevention campaign in which we are advocating for better blood pressure education and management to help prevent a large number of potentially preventable brain haemorrhages. Whilst there are many causes of brain haemorrhages, one of the leading causes - and the one that can be managed the most - is our blood pressure. However, on average a third of the population has high blood pressure with 50% of those people being undiagnosed. Therefore this podcast is centred around driving awareness and education around the critical importance of blood pressure management.

What You Can Expect from the Podcast

Each episode of Prevent the Preventable features different guests and themes, shedding light on how we can improve our brain health. Our host, NKMT Director, Fiona Moss is joined by a diverse range of voices, from medical experts to survivors and family members, each bringing a unique perspective on brain health.

The podcast is structured to cover a wide range of health-related topics that can contribute to a reduced risk of brain haemorrhages. Here are some of the key areas we’ll be diving into:

  • Understanding Brain Haemorrhages:

    We explain what happens during a brain haemorrhage, its impact on the body, and why prevention is key.

  • Blood Pressure and Brain Health:

    Dr. Adam Greenstein, a leading expert on blood pressure and its impact on the brain, joins us to discuss hypertension—a major contributor to lifestyle-related brain haemorrhages. Dr. Greenstein shares advice on maintaining healthy blood pressure levels, along with insights into how other lifestyle habits, such as diet and exercise, play a role.

  • Lifestyle Factors:

    Our episodes explore how lifestyle choices, including sleep quality, alcohol consumption, and stress management, impact brain health. Listeners will learn about the effects of these factors on brain function and overall health, and we discuss simple adjustments that can lead to long-term improvements.

  • Real Life Stories:

    Some episodes feature real-life stories from people who have survived a brain haemorrhage and individuals who have lost loved ones to this condition. These stories offer a powerful reminder of the impact a brain haemorrhage can have on lives, bringing both empathy and urgency to our discussions.

  • The Research at The University of Manchester:

    We’re also joined by Katie Murray, a Research Fellow from Manchester University, whose position has been funded by the Natalie Kate Moss Trust.

  • Navigating Grief:

    Amber Jeffery from The Grief Gang is featured in an episode focused on managing grief and finding resilience after losing a loved one to a brain haemorrhage. Amber’s work in normalizing conversations around grief offers comfort and support for listeners who may be dealing with their own losses.

THIS IS NOT JUST A PODCAST;

IT’S A MOVEMENT.
